Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a form of cosmetic dentistry that aims to fix minor dental issues. Whether you have chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, a quality dental bonding procedure may offer the solution.

Dental bonding treatment offers a variety of options. The cost-per-tooth is generally less expensive than for veneers. This is also more appropriate for smaller or temporary cosmetic changes or changes to your teeth in areas where you have low bite pressure. Many patients receive dental bonding on their front teeth to fix a gap or even the teeth’ length. While it depends on the procedure and its location, most bonding treatments can last from four to eight years.

How does Dental Bonding Work?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure to correct minor imperfections. It is not a permanent solution like veneers or dental implants. During your appointment, we will thoroughly examine your teeth to ensure you are a candidate for this treatment.

During the procedure, a small amount of phosphoric acid is applied to the surface of your teeth. This allows our cosmetic dentists to roughen your teeth’s surface so that tooth-colored composite can be applied. This process is relatively painless and helps the bonding material to stay in place.

We work to sculpt and shape the material to best fit your tooth. Once the bonding material is placed, a special ultraviolet light is applied to harden it so that it sets. After this, your tooth is polished and buffed out for a smooth finish.

Each tooth takes between forty-five minutes to an hour to complete, and the entire process can be handled in a single office visit. General anesthesia is not required, and the process is not applied to sensitive teeth. As this is considered a cosmetic treatment, it is likely not covered by insurance.

What issues does Dental Bonding address?

Among the minor cosmetic issues, tooth bonding addresses include:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Elongate teeth
  • Teeth in need of a new shape
  • Teeth in need of an alternative to amalgam fillings
  • Teeth in need of root protection

Caring For Your Smile

Bonded teeth require the same cleaning process as they usually would: brushing and flossing. Besides this, make sure you use an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day and keep on top of your routine check-ups and cleanings. There is a potential for staining if you drink a lot of coffee, dark sodas, or red wine, or a smoker. We recommend that you avoid biting directly into hard or chewy food if your two front teeth are bonded, as these would weaken the bonding. Make sure you avoid other hard surfaces, like biting your nails or chewing ice.

What is the cost of Dental Bonding?

The cost of dental bonding will vary based on the extensiveness and the number of teeth involved. However, the general price range varies from $400 to $600 per tooth and is considered the least expensive cosmetic dentistry option. It is important to remember that dental bonding touch-ups are easy to do and may also be necessary as needed over your bonding’s lifespan.
